As World War II came into it`s final day`s a healthy dismantling took place of all the technological marvels as well as the morbid treasures Adolph Hitler had in his cold dead clutches.
The Allies surged into the countryside gathering up looted art, scientists, ungodly evil what-have-you`s, and anything else that needed securing.
One item of note taken away for safe keeping was what many still today refer to as "Hitler`s Yacht...The Aviso Grille".
Seized by the British allies and taken to a location in English waters it was purchased a while later by an English philanthropist by the name of George Arida.
Arida took the Aviso Grille and hawked out tours aboard it to the people with a morbid curiosity drawn to it`s ornate charms who were willing to pay him a quick buck.
Apparently that sideshow atmosphere didnt go over too well with the powers that be as the whole episode came to an end with the Aviso Grille being yanked out of that limelight for a little trip across the pond and up the Delaware River to a scrapyard along the waterfront of Bordentown N.J.
It was there the wreckers torch flared and the Aviso was waylaid in true Jersey Chop-Shop fashion being diced into smithereens,....but not before some functional artifacts could be sold to the locals for a fraction of the original or historic value.
Items such as portholes, brass fixtures,...and yes,..the Fuhrer`s commode with a matching sink all went into the back seats and car-trunks of those willing to cart it all way.
And drag it all away they did.....as nothing remains of the ship except for the items people took home some of which is in actual use to this day.
That is the case with Adolph Hitler`s toilet from the Aviso Grille.
The toilet and sink were purchased by local gasoline retailer Sam Carlani when the city of Florence N.J. eventually put in water and sewers along the street where Sam had set up his Durant Star auto dealership.
Carlani had installed the sink with sons Anthony and Joe assisted by their friend Arthur Doane as this newly available running water was a long time in the waiting.
And where there`s running water there`s a working toilet....at least if you have one. Nevermind it was Hitler`s toilet...when you gotta go you gotta go...and they went..right into business and the place is still there today...Hitler`s wasser-kloset and all.
Originally the building was run by a gentleman named Oscar Donnelly who went all that time with no pot to piss in,...only an outhouse,...and no running water service from the city.
From opening day until he sold to Carlani it was devoid of civilized convenience. Then the war was won...the chop-shop whacked up the Grille and the rest is history.
Present day the place is run and owned by Greg Kohfeldt who maintains the toilet once squatted upon by none other than the Fuhrer his badself....and is quick to point out that he will gladly let any takers willing to purchase and install a fully functional new modern restroom for his shop take THE WHOLE HITLER BATHROOM out of there and do what they will with it.
I mean,...I`ve seen it and I`m not too sure I`d actually even use it as who knows what kind of horrifying hydrodynamic karma may befall one who inadvertantly crosses the paranormal streams with a stream of hot urine....anything could happen...after all this is Jersey and some pretty strange occurances have been known to....well....occur.
Kohfeldt was taking the celebrity of the porcelain throne once occupado by the head Nazi madman all in stride and stated:
"It`s in the news with radio stations, magazines, and newspapers all calling every three years or so"...he proudly displays a newspaper article and adds: "some people locally know about it but most dont".
He describes what the place was like when he took over in 1994 pointing to where the original black-smithing tools and hearth once stood...recalling when he bought the place from Carlani the story of the toilet and sink from Hitlers yacht were not talked about as much as it is today.
" Every three or four years it hits a peak of popularity then it dies off" say`s Kohfeldt.
I cant help but wonder what kind of crack-pot plots may have been hatched on that pot while Adolph was out at sea surveying his wolfpacks, and yesterdays bratwurst with sauerkraut made it`s way into the very shitter that sat before me.
Was there Hitler DNA encrusted on the rim of this potty or did his Weinerschnitzel have good aim even in high seas?
It is known that Hitler got seasick rather easily.
There`s a good possibility he could have steered this porcelain bus straight into the nearest port of call all the while puking his psychotic little guts out.
I ask Greg a few more questions and then head off to get some pictures.....so:
Wizard343: "Any Channeling happen while you are using the toilet?"
Greg K: "Nothing like that..I`m quick in and quick out for everything"
Wizard343: "Does the toilet ever mysteriously flush or accomodate any apparitions?"
Greg K: "No, but several customers salute it and yell out Zeig Heil!"
"it doesnt flush right, you have to hold it down"...Kohfeldt adds: "its not all original some parts have been replaced inside over the years"
Given the amount of use the place still gets after all these years it`s remarkable as Kohfeldt put`s it: "It functions, its a working bathroom and has the original stopper and German markings"
So...with that, the history, the little known facts and the remaining ability for the N.J. public to piss in Hitler`s pot I give you the infamous Hitler Toilet:

With no running water or toilet, Sam Carlani buys the place much as seen here from Oscar Donelly......and the war comes to a close.
When utilities and The Aviso Grille arrive in town the rest is water under the bridge....

The Aviso Grille docks in Bremerhaven ...notice the familiar shadow in the foreground?

The Nazi``s on the Fatherlands beloved ship ...Hitler commandeered it from Germany.

The Aviso Grille eventually makes it up the Delaware to Bordentown N.J. to be cut up for scrap....it was purposely devoid of any Nazi artifacts of substance.
At one time there were brass bells with visible Swastikas....long gone by the time it got to Jersey.

Sam Carlani updates the infrastructure with some modern conveniences around the time these pictures were taken....

The matching set as installed back in the day........

Whatever you do....DONT cross the streams.....

Dont forget to wash your hands.......

Spreken Zie Deutsch?!?

Greg Kofeldt will gladly trade you this matching set for a new modern one....thanks for the tour Greg!
