There's a ton of stuff in Northern Hunterdon that has'nt been tapped yet...and more info on other stuff that has...
For example, the house at Tower Hill Reserve...the house was owned by Thomas Edison's book keeper, but his wife is the really interesting one. She fabricated the world's first movie screen, and was the voice of the world's first talking doll. Unfortunitely, the house is scheduled for demolition this winter. It was deemed "not historic" because it had additions put on it, but get this: The house was built in 1840 and had two additions. One was around 1860, and the other one was in 1900. So because there was an addition put on the place 108 years ago it is no longer historic. I would really like to see a grass roots campaign come to save the place. I can't do it because I work for the county and it might jeapordize my job I'm afraid. It's probably not such a good idea for me to even be posting this, but I respect history and can't let it just slip on by. Historic structures are being demolished I feel more out of laziness than lack of money. Tell me the fifth richest county in the US can't preserve a couple buildings...
Plenty of other interesting stuff as well. I contacted Mark M about the abandoned Swack Hammer Cemetary which no one seems to know about. That place, and the ruins of the church by it are awesome.
More to come....
